Information for General Practitioners

The Rachel Forster Breast Clinic is a free outpatient clinic located in Gloucester House at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

All clinic services are provided at no cost to the patient.

The Breast Clinic provides:

  • a diagnostic service for women with breast symptoms,
  • a follow-up service for women who have had breast cancer or a benign condition that requires monitoring,
  • a monitoring service for women with a family history which places them in the moderate to high-risk bracket (see NBCC guidelines for family history of breast cancer).
  • a genetic clinic for women at high risk of breast cancer

The multidisciplinary breast clinic operates on Thursday afternoons. This clinic has access to the following services to obtain a diagnosis:

  • breast specialist consultation
  • additional imaging
  • FNA/core biopsy.

A Breast Physician clinic is available on Tuesday afternoons for low-risk symptomatic patients and follow-up appointments.

Referring patients

  • A referral letter is required, download our referral form [PDF, 334KB]
  • Imaging
    • It is recommended that new patient referrals have baseline investigations done prior to their clinic appointment. All films are to be brought to their initial consultation.
    • For patients 35 and older: mammogram +/- ultrasound
    • For patients younger than 35: ultrasound only
  • Appointments can be arranged by ringing the following number: 9515-7695.
  • The Breast Clinic and Breast Care nurses are available to answer any questions about the clinic procedures and to book urgent appointments � contact Breast Care nurses Ann or Ruth on 9515-6047, or Ruth, the clinic coordinator on 9515-8844.

Clinical Trials

The Sydney Breast Cancer Institute has an active research program. Clinical trials have quite stringent entry criteria and are not always suitable for all patients. It is therefore important that the appropriate doctor and research team assess the suitability of all patients before they enter a trial.
